Sampdoria will be in search of their first win of the season when the newly-promoted Monza head to Genoa with off the back of registering their first-ever win in Serie A in stunning style against Juventus.
Monza beat Juventus 1-0 in the last game. This was their first victory of the season since beating Frosinone in the Coppa Italia and their first win in Serie A history. It took them seven games to do so, losing to the likes of Udinese, Roma, Napoli and Atalanta in the process – all four of these sides sit in the top six, however.
As for Sampdoria, they are one of two winless sides left in the league alongside Cremonese, but they currently sit behind them on goals difference, despite racking up two points each. The Genoa-based side registered an impressive draw against Lazio and another 0-0 draw with Juventus in August, but this does now mean they enter this game in the midst of a three-game losing run.
There have been some terrible results this season for Sampdoria to deal with. Losing to the likes of AC Milan is no fault of their own, but in losing 4-0 to Salernitana, 2-1 to Hellas Verona and 2-1 to Spezia, there is very little hope of them being able to rocket themselves out of the drop zone right now.
Surely, however, it’s about time they won after Monza put everything into their win over Juventus. If Marco Giampaolo can’t get the win for his side, it will surely spell the end of his time at Sampdoria with a stunning 15 losses from 24 games already as head coach and only 22 goals scored
