AC Milan’s defence of the Serie A title has so far gone according to plan with the champions sitting in the top two after three games as they get on the road to meet with Sassuolo who sit with only four points so far.
Sassuolo have lost a game, drawn another and racked up all three points in their other game too. Lecce were the only team to taste defeat at the hands of Sassuolo this season, as Domenico Berardi’s incredible volley from range saw them got all three points in that one.
A 2-2 draw with Spezia over the weekend for the home side in this one did see them go a goal down but come back to draw 2-2 – David Frattesi and Andrea Pinamonti netted a goal in that game. What’s more, by losing 3-0 loss to Juventus, the Black and Green are now down in 11th after three fixtures, and it does look like the club have started the season near enough the exact same as they last campaign.
As for Milan, one of the main reason why they sit so comfortably in the top two is because of the topsy-turvy starts from rivals Inter Milan and Juventus. The points tally between them all right now is barely noticeable, as Napoli remain their biggest test in the race for the title so far.
Milan defeated Udinese on the opening weekend of their Serie A title defence, as they won 4-2 at San Siro that day. The club did go a goal down after two minutes in that one, but with Theo Hernandez’s penalty and two goals from Ante Rebic and another from Brahim Diaz, Milan eventually won the game fairly easily.
Milan then drew 1-1 with Atalanta a game later, as Ismael Bennacer’s equaliser saw them get a point in Bergamo in game they largely dominated after seven shots on target and 60% of the ball.
