Match preview
11th and 13th will clash in Serie A this Sunday as Salernitana head to the Mapei Stadium to meet with Sassuolo who are looking to achieve two wins in a row for the first time this season.
Sassuolo have been poor at times this season and with a 0-0 draw against Cremonese two games ago, they are one of the only sides not to beat them in a meeting this year. The club did get a 0-0 against the champions AC Milan and by beating Torino in Turin 1-0, there is a bit of form to capture.
Salernitana’s 13th spot right now in Serie doesn’t quite say everything about their season so far. Just three weeks ago, they led 2-0 at the against Juventus in Turin, before eventually drawing the game 2-2.
They’ve also earned up draws against Empoli Bologna, and even been one of the few teams to stop Udinese this campaign in a 0-0 draw in August. Salernitana’s only losses this season have been in a 1-0 defeat to Roma at the start of the campaign and a 2-1 defeat to Lecce last time.
Salernitana are in some ways still living off the stunning 4-0 win over Sampdoria, which remains one of their highest-scoring wins in Serie A history. Erik Botheim, Tonny Vilhene, Federico Bonazzoli and Boulaye Dia all netted in that win, but with just one victory all season, they remain in 13th in the league.
It will be a close game here, but the home advantage for Sassuolo and the struggles on the road for Salernitana could be the difference here.
