Inter Milan will be bidding to stay in second this Friday night as they open the Serie A weekend with a trip to the Stadio Alberto Picco where Spezia continue to hover just above the relegation zone ahead of this one.
It’s been a very poor season for Spezia, but despite only registering four wins this campaign, they are still three clear of Hellas Verona in 18th place but with a much worse goals difference record.
At the same time, the 17th-placed side had their best chance in many weeks to rocket further away from the bottom three, as they played hosts to Verona but drew 0-0 in a very lacklustre effort.
Worse yet, Federico Marchetti was sent off just over 20 minutes after entering the field, and he now misses this game.
As for Inter, they returned to winning ways last Sunday when they eased past Lecce at the San Siro. Lautaro Martinez scored once more that day, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan continued his excellent form with the opening goal.
Simeone Inzaghi’s men remain in second place as a result. It keeps the Italian’s side two clear of Lazio and three above Roma and AC Milan, yet still an incredible 15 points adrift of the league leaders Napoli.
