Udinese’s struggles have continued with another draw against Lecce over the weekend as the club remain in eighth ahead of a trip to the Stadio Alberto Picco where Spezia come into this one after narrowly losing to the champions AC Milan.
Spezia will be hanging their heads high in some way after the narrow loss to Milan on Saturday, as it took a goal from Oliver Giroud in the final minute of regular time to get all three points on the board for the champions. Quite incredibly, Daniel Maldini, who is on loan from Milan, scored for Spezia at the San Siro with a fantastic curling effort. Nevertheless, with just five shots on target for Spezia and 11 for Milan, they were bettered throughout much of the game.
Luca Gotti’s side are now on a three-game winless run since beating Bescia in the second round of the Coppa Italia 3-1. A loss to Salernitana came shortly after, before Fiorentina beat them too before the defeat to Milan. The recent run keeps them ahead of Cremonese in 18th by three points, and the club should be confident in heading into the World Cup break outside of the relegation zone.
Udinese slipped up again over the weekend in a 1-1 draw with Lecce. It now means the club have not won in Serie A since the start of October when they defeated Hellas Verona 2-0. Udinese are still just four points off fourth-placed Atalanta, however, and sit only three adrift of Roma in the Europa Conference League spot of sixth.
