Match preview
16th and 14th will meet in League Two this weekend as two of the division’s most underperforming teams meet at Blundell Park with Grimsby losing once again last weekend.
It’s been a strange season for Grimsby so far, as they have managed to put together and excellent cup run but failed so far to impress in the league. Their cup run in the Football League Trophy came to an end last time out as Accrington Stanley beat them 1-0.
However, in beating Cambridge United away from home in the FA Cup, they are now into the third round having also beaten League One high flyers, Plymouth Arygle, by a stunning scoreline of 5-1 in the FA Cup.
Grimsby have not won in League Two, however, since way back in mid-October, when they beat Stockport County away from home. The club have gone on to draw twice and lose three times, registering defeats to Barrow and even 24th-placed Hartlepool United, before a recent loss to Wimbledon.
As for Tranmere, they managed to get a decent point away to third-placed Northampton Town last weekend, but this does mean the club have not won a game in all competitions for eight games, forcing them out of the Football League Trophy, the FA Cup and pushing them into 14th in League Two.
