Match preview
Switzerland and Cameroon will kick off Group G this Thursday as Brazil and Serbia meet later in the day with the Swiss aiming to put another marker down on a major tournament with their excellent group stages record.
Serbia have improved greatly over the last few years and them, Switzerland and Cameroon are all set to battle it out for second in this group it seems. Switzerland are favoured to do so, however, and they head into this one with some players in great form, such as Granit Xhaka.
The Arsenal man will captain his side here, as the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Haris Seferovic and Breel Embolo look to continue their impressive form for their country. As for Cameroon, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has been on fire for Bayern Munich this season with six goals in 10 Bundesliga games and 11 across his 16 outings in all competitions. It makes it his highest-scoring season in professional football already, as he looks to keep filling the boots left behind from Robert Lewandowski at Bayern.
Cameroon did, however lose in the AFCON semi-finals back in February on home soil, before clinching third with a penalty shootout win over Burkina Faso after drawing 3-3. Swtizerland have been terrible in 2022, losing four of their first five games of the year, before eventually beating Portugal, Spain and Czech Republic in the Nations League. A 2-0 loss to Ghana last week in a warmup game has thrown further questions their way, however.
