The tournament was littered with controversy for obvious reasons ahead of the get-go.

However, despite taking place in the winter, it was one of the more memorable World Cups in recent history.

Argentina and France went head-to-head in the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.

Argentina eventually picked up the win in what was arguably the greatest World Cup final of all time.

As for Portugal, they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Morocco, who became the first African side to reach a WC semi-final.

Cristiano Ronaldo did not start the match. He was dropped following a spat with a South Korean player earlier in the tournament, with Goncalo Ramos stepping up in his absence and netting a hat-trick.

Katia Aveiro watched the final; from home and didn’t hold back in her criticisms. She posted to Instagram: “The worst World Cup of all time… that thankfully gave us a great final. What a match. Congratulations to Argentina.”

The 45-year-old then paid tribute to Mbappe, who has already scored 12 World Cup goals at the age of 23.

She added: “Kylian Mbappe. This boy is unreal. What a bright future awaits you. Incredible.”
