BATE Borisov vs Aris Limassol match preview

Following Wednesday’s goal-fest of a first leg at Alphamega Stadium, Aris Limassol are in pole position to get through this tie.

Six nights ago, the Cypriot side prevailed 6-2 at home, leading 3-0 by half time, with Yannick Gomis and Leo Bengtsson on target, before Sidi Bane scored an own goal.

Artem Kontsevoy and Ruslan Khadarkevich did strike back for BATE, with Gomis bagging his second in-between, before late goals from Jaden Montnor and Mariusz Stępiński completed the rout.

So, given that they lead by four, Aris should complete the job in Mezőkövesd.

If they do, the Light Brigade would prevail in a European tie for the first time, and qualify for a maiden UEFA group stage, which would be a major achievement.

BATE Borisov meantime have featured in nine group stages, although the most-recent of those was in 2018, while all Belorussian clubs must play ‘home’ matches behind-closed-doors and at neutral venues.

The winners of this tie will take on Qarabağ or Raków Częstochowa in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.

The losers drop into the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, where they’ll face the losers of FC Sheriff Tiraspol vs Maccabi Haifa.
