Match Preview & Prediction
Holding Champions League winners Real Madrid is in line to secure the top spot in Group F with one match to spare as they travel to Saxony to clash with struggling Bundesliga upstarts RB Leipzig at Red Bull Arena.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men arrive in Germany undefeated in their last six in LA Liga (5-1-0) and have yet to taste defeat on European nights (4-1-0) and are once more one of the tournament heavyweights to make a deep run in the competition while not disappointing in 2022-23 thus far.
In stark contrast, Leipzig has failed to truly progress in their project on the domestic front and sits midtable and is already seven points adrift of table-topping Union Berlin despite being undefeated in their last four outings in Germany (2-2-0).
Both clubs have considerable firepower at their disposal, with RM boasting Karim Benzema, Vinícius Júnior, and Federico Valverde, all of who have at least five goals in La Liga this season, while Valverde has a club-leading six on his CV. Leipzig can count on Christopher Nkunku once again as the French international forward’s eight goals are joint-top of the league, while the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Timo Werner, André Silva, Emile Forsberg, and Dani Olmo offer credible support in the forward areas.
But Real Madrid holds the trump card due to their 2-0 win in the reverse fixture and a four-point cushion over RBL, and that result could well repeat here given their consistent levels of performance while Leipzig has so often produced Jekyll & Hyde results across the entire campaign. Bank on a Madrid win and confirmation as group winners with Leipzig, barring results, could be in a fight to reach the knockout stage.
Prediction: RB Leipzig 0-2 Real Madrid
