Match preview

A Bristol City outfit brimming with confidence will be hopeful of keeping a fine recent stretch of form alive, when they welcome a Wigan Athletic side fresh off a timely return to winning ways of their own to Ashton Gate for a Championship clash on Wednesday, February 15th.

First, let’s take a look at the recent endeavours of the former.

As alluded to above, Bristol City have turned things around in a major way over the course of recent weeks.

Once considered as being in real danger of relegation, the Robins, since late December, have embarked on a head-turning nine-game unbeaten streak.

Most recently, Nigel Pearson’s troops put Norwich City to the sword on Saturday, courtesy of a solitary strike on the part of Mark Sykes.

Safe to say, then, that Bristol City will head into this evening’s action at Ashton Gate with high hopes of making it four wins on the trot.

Upcoming opponents Wigan Athletic, though, will make the trip to southwest England hopeful of building on what could prove to be a season-altering result of their own last time out.

This past weekend, Wigan welcomed fellow relegation candidates Huddersfield Town to the DW Stadium, sitting bottom of the table, and with just a solitary victory to their names since all the way back in October.

The Latics’ eventual 1-0 triumph, as a result, could not have come at a better time.

New boss Shaun Maloney’s men have, in turn, climbed clear of both Huddersfield and Blackpool, and to within three points of safety in England’s 2nd tier.

And yet, despite all of this, we at 101 are nevertheless backing hosts Bristol City to simply prove too much for Wigan upon the full-time whistle bringing a close to proceedings at Ashton Gate later tonight.
