Match preview

A Millwall outfit in the thick of the promotion playoff picture will be hopeful of keeping a fine recent spell of form alive, when they make the trip to England’s west Midlands for a Championship meeting with Coventry City on Tuesday, February 14th.

The Lions, of course, have proven a tough nut to crack across the season to date, having slipped to defeat in just nine of their 29 outings, good enough for 4th fewest in England’s 2nd tier.

This comes largely owing to an impressive stretch of late, featuring a solitary loss in eight, and three wins from the club’s last five.

Most recently, Gary Rowett’s troops put struggling Queens Park Rangers to the sword, at Loftus Road.

Such fine efforts mean that Millwall are now sitting pretty in fifth spot in the Championship, whilst in possession of at least one game in hand on every other side in the division.

Safe to say, though, things have not been going quite so well for the Lions’ upcoming opponents of late.

Coventry, after looking as though they themselves could kick on towards the playoff places owing to a stellar run of results heading into the World Cup break, have since struggled in a major way.

In fact, dating back to early November, the Sky Blues have notched just two wins from their last 12 attempts.

This run includes an FA Cup exit at the hands of non-league Wrexham, as well as league defeats to the likes of Reading, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion.

To their credit, though, Mark Robins’ troops did manage to at least steady the ship to some degree last time out.

This came as Matt Godden’s spot-kick on the stroke of the interval proved decisive in denying high-flying Luton Town victory at the Ricoh Arena.

And though they nevertheless remain in a disappointing 14th in the table, we at 101 therefore find it difficult to definitively rule Coventry out of the running for another share of the spoils against in-form Millwall later tonight.
