Leeds United vs Cardiff City match preview

Leeds United’s efforts to secure a swift return to the top-flight of English football are set to be kicked into gear on Sunday, August 6th.

This comes as the Whites prepare to welcome Cardiff City to Elland Road, for the club’s 2023/24 Championship opener.

Beginning with the former, it is of course the subject of outgoings which has dominated the headlines in west Yorkshire across the summer to date.

Amid something of a mass exodus from new boss Daniel Farke’s squad, Rodrigo, Robin Koch, Maximilian Wober, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca and Tyler Roberts have all sought out and secured pastures new.

Through the door, on the other hand, have come just Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow, and Sam Byram.

And yet, despite a hugely challenging summer thus far, the widespread expectation on the part of the Leeds faithful will be for their side to establish themselves in the thick of the promotion playoff battle from the off.

The Bluebirds, for their part, will too be eyeing a more productive campaign this time round, after narrowly avoiding the drop to League One in 2022/23.

Since, the powers that be in Wales’ capital have gone about reinforcing the club’s first-team ranks courtesy of a host of new additions, most notably the free agent return of Aaron Ramsey.

Yet, with barely a penny spent, and several faces out the door, too, could Cardiff be facing up to another year scrapping it out at the foot of the Championship table?

New boss Erol Bulut will certainly be hoping not.

We at 101, though, do not envision Cardiff’s campaign getting off to a particularly positive start, instead backing Leeds to ultimately emerge from Sunday’s Elland Road showdown with all three points.
