Leicester City vs Coventry City match preview

Leicester City’s efforts to secure a swift return to the top-flight of English football are set to be kicked into gear on Sunday, August 6th.

This comes as the Foxes prepare to welcome Coventry City to the King Power Stadium, for the club’s 2023/24 Championship opener.

Beginning with the former, it is of course the subject of outgoings which has dominated the headlines at the King Power across the summer to date.

To this point, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Caglar Soyuncu, Youri Tielemans and more have all made the decision to call time on their respective stints in Leicester colours.

In the door in their place, meanwhile, have been the likes of Harry Winks, Conor Coady, and Stephy Mavididi.

All told, though, Enzo Maresca’s squad looks a markedly weaker one than that which was ultimately sent packing from the Premier League owing to an 18th-placed finish last time out.

Coventry have too been forced to bid farewell to the club’s star performer this summer, Viktor Gyokeres taking his talents to Portugal to line out for heavyweights Sporting CP.

In his place, though, have come both Ellis Simms and Haji Wright, with a further seven arrivals having taken the Sky Blues’ spending for the summer beyond the €25 million mark.

And yet, despite having been pipped to promotion in agonising fashion last season, Coventry, according to the bookmakers, are heavy underdogs to emerge from the King Power on Sunday with so much as a share of the spoils.

We at 101, on the other hand, view the chances of Mark Robins’ side in an altogether more positive light.

Whilst Leicester should indeed be viewed as favourites, it would not come as a major surprise if Coventry were to go on to snag a hard-fought point.

Based on the given odds, we are therefore backing a score draw as our favoured bet for Sunday’s King Power season opener.
