Match preview

A Luton Town outfit desperate for a return to winning ways amid the club’s ongoing pursuit of a promotion playoff berth are set to act as hosts in a Championship showdown with Swansea City this Saturday, March 4th.

The Hatters, to their credit, have long proven themselves something of a tough nut to crack.

Dating back to mid-January, Rob Edwards’ troops have slipped to just a solitary defeat in eight, and even that came at the hands of table-topping Burnley.

Recent weeks, though, have also seen Luton struggle in efforts to turn stalemate positions into winning ones.

This, in turn, was followed by yet another draw in midweek, as a meeting with fellow promotion candidates Millwall saw Luke Berry’s late finish prove decisive en route to a 2-2 stalemate.

Luton, as a result, find themselves in possession of the final playoff berth, two points clear of 7th-placed Norwich City.

Amid efforts to stave off the chasing pack, though, Edwards and co. will soon need to start stringing together a consistent stretch of wins.

And, in truth, this weekend marks the perfect opportunity for Luton to kick such a run into gear.

Swansea City, for their part, have found positive results altogether difficult to come by of late.

The Swans have managed just one victory from their last eight across all competitions, a stretch which includes no fewer than five defeats, and an FA Cup exit at the hands of Bristol City.

Most recently, Russell Martin’s men did at least manage to steady the ship, in bouncing back from a pair of successive losses courtesy of a solid-if-unspectacular 1-1 draw with Rotherham United.

But the club’s long-standing struggles mean that Swansea, after looking like surprise candidates for a top-six finish of their own early in the campaign, now sit in a lowly 16th in England’s 2nd tier.

And we at 101 do not envision the woes of the Welsh giants being at all eased on Saturday afternoon.

Instead, come the full-time whistle at Kenilworth Road, we are backing hosts Luton to ultimately emerge on the right side of the result.
