Watford vs Stoke City match preview

Two sides with little more than pride to play for are set to lock horns in a Championship final day clash at Vicarage Road on Monday, May 8th.

The matchup in question will see Watford act as hosts, in a meeting with Stoke City.

Beginning with the former, Watford, of course, have long seen the club’s campaign peter out into irrelevance.

Owing to a dismal stretch of just one win in eight dating all the way back to March, the Hornets’ feint hopes of a late surge towards the promotion playoff spots have long been extinguished.

In fact, after surrendering a two-goal lead en route to a disappointing share of the spoils at Sunderland last time out, Chris Wilder’s troops sit in the bottom half of the table, with just 60 points on the board.

Turning attentions towards Monday’s visitors to Vicarage Road, Stoke have too found positive results altogether difficult to come by of late.

Most recently, a home meeting with relegation-battling Queens Park Rangers saw Alex Neil’s men fail to make their utter dominance in possession count, en route to a 1-0 loss.

Stoke, as a result, sit 16th in the standings in England’s 2nd tier, seven points back of their upcoming hosts.

Despite their own less-than-impressive form of late, we at 101 are therefore backing Watford to ultimately dispatch of Stoke, come the full-time whistle at Vicarage Road later this evening.
