Luke Littler

Luke Littler’s remarkable rise to prominence has been demonstrated with the darts star being the third most Googled person in the UK in 2024.

Littler came from nowhere to reach the final of the World Darts Championship earlier this year as a 16-year-old, only to lose to Luke Humphries. Since then, he has gone on to win the Premier League, the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Series Finals.

The interest generated by what happened at Alexander Palace and in the aftermath saw him rank behind just Kate Middleton and Donald Trump in Google searches in the UK.

Prime Minister Keir Starker was fourth and King Charles seventh.

Above Yamal and Bellingham in athlete search

In the list of athletes searched for in the UK, Littler was top, ahead of Lamine Yamal, Simone Biles, Jude Bellingham and Adam Peaty.

Littler said: “To be recognised in two Year in Search lists is a huge honour.

“It has been an amazing year for me personally, and for the sport of darts as a whole. I cannot quite believe I am trending higher than both the Prime Minister and the King in the ‘people’ category.

“In a year of such great sporting achievements, it is a proud moment for me to be the top trending athlete in 2024.”

Littler’s second crack at the World Championships gets underway before Christmas with the tournament starting on Sunday. His second-round clash with either Fallon Sherrock or Ryan Meikle is slated for Sunday, December 21.

Littler has been seeded fourth which means he could come up against world number one Humphries in the semi-finals.
