Real Sociedad vs RB Leipzig betting tips: Europa League preview, predictions and odds

[RECOMMENDED_BETS]

Real Sociedad have only won two of their last eight European home matches. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig’s last eight matches in UEFA competition outside Germany have produced 36 goals.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is 21/20.

RB Leipzig to win and over 2.5 goals is 3/1.

Christopher Nkunku has scored 22 goals this season, including eight in Europe. He is 7/1 to break the deadlock and 11/5 to score anytime.

Match preview

After a thoroughly entertaining first leg in Leipzig, it’s winner takes all as the two reconvene in San Sebastián.

A week ago, it was first blood to Real Sociedad when Robin Le Normand’s shot deflected in off Mohamed Simakan with just eight minutes played.

The second half was then a tale of two penalties with Mikel Oyarzabal restoring la Real’s lead before Emil Forsberg ensured it finished level pegging.

With the away goals rule having been abolished, it’s winner takes all in this return fixture.

RB Leipzig only made their debut in UEFA competition in 2017, but have since reached a Europa League quarter-finals and the Champions League semis in 2020.

Die Roten Bullen should be full of confidence after enjoying their biggest-ever Bundesliga away victory at the weekend.

Benjamin Henrichs, Nkunku, Dani Olmo, Amadou Haidara and Yussuf Poulsen all on target as they demolished Hertha BSC 6-1 at Olympiastadion.

This means Domenico Tedesco’s side are fourth having won five of their last six league games.

Real Sociedad’s Sunday night result was in stark contrast to that of their visitors.

Los Txuri-Urdin were hammered 4-0 by rivals Athletic Club in the Basque derby, the first time either side had scored 4+ in a derby since 2002.

This actually means Imanol Alguacil’s side have won just two of their last 11 La Liga games, leaving them seventh.

In this one, la Real are aiming to win a European knockout tie post-Christmas for the first time since 1983.

Who will advance at Anoeta?

Real Sociedad team news

Given the hectic schedule, and their rather lengthy injury list, Imanol Alguacil’s squad is very thin just now.

They’re currently without Nacho Monreal, Ander Barrenetxea, Carlos Fernández and Alexander Isak due to injury, the latter two leaves them short up front.

Mat Ryan donned the gloves in the first leg, before Álex Remiro came in on Sunday, but the Australian is likely to be between the sticks again here.

Further forward, David Silva was only on the bench in Germany but could start this crucial clash.

With Isak and Fernández injured, Alexander Sørloth, who’s currently on loan from Leipzig, will lead the line; what a storyline that could be.

RB Leipzig team news

Domenico Tedesco’s squad meanwhile is pretty much at full strength, with the exception of Marcel Halstenberg.

Christopher Nkunku, who scored in the first leg, will be the main goal threat again.

He became just the fourth player to score a Champions League hat-trick but lose the match in September, after Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and İrfan Can Kahveci.

Yussuf Yurary Poulsen was his strike partner at Hertha on Sunday but André Silva, who got the nod in the first leg, could return here.
