Another day, another deal completed by Chelsea amid seemingly endless financial backing from Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital Group’s Behdad Eghbali as the Blues add yet another fresh name to the senior squad under Graham Potter in the vein of England U21 international Noni Madueke per reports from Standard Sports’ Nizaar Kinsella.

The 20-year-old Barnet-born winger, and former Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur academy prospect, is set for a return to England after he first departed Spurs back in the summer of 2018 when he arrived in Eindhoven to join the credible youth setup at PSV.

After making his senior debut just one year later, Madueke has his breakout campaign at Philips Stadion during the 2020-21 season where he hit 7 goals and added 6 assists across 24 Eredivisie appearances, while also directly contributing during the club’s Europa League campaign.

Chelsea has parted with the sum of £35m for the versatile winger, adding yet another youthful presence into the senior squad under Graham Potter just days after the Blues agreed to a ~£90m move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Ukrainian wonderkid Mykhailo Mudry. Both deals follow closely behind previous January moves for FK Molde’s David Datro Fofana (£10m), AS Monaco’s Benoît Badiashile (£33m), Vasco da Gama’s Andrey Santos (£10m), and a loan move for Atlético Madrid ace João Félix (£10m), taking the club’s winter spending to £190m and the total outlay across the season to a staggering £440m.

With Chelsea’s long-term project clearly targeting a youthful core in a similar fashion to Arsenal’s current standing in the Premier League on the back of the Gunners’ project under Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta, the Blues could well be looking at long-term progression of their own that could place them in good stead to return to the league summit should everything go to plan.
