Japan vs Peru match preview

After claiming an emphatic victory on Thursday, will Japan make it two friendly wins out of two this month?

Last time out, the Samurai Blue crushed El Salvador 6-0 at Toyota Stadium, helped by the fact their visitors played over 87 minutes down to ten men, following an extremely early red card.

Shōgo Taniguchi and Ayase Ueda both scored in the opening three minutes, before Takefusa Kubo, Ritsu Dōan, Keito Nakamura and Kyōgo Furuhashi were all also on target.

Back in March, Hajime Moriyasu’s side were held to a draw by Uruguay before losing 2-1 to Colombia, so were delighted to claim their first competitive win of the year.

Japan will face four more friendlies before returning to competitive action in November, when AFC World Cup qualifying resumes, with the Asia Cup also taking place next January.

With plenty of more meaningful games to come, will the Samurai Blue claim another confidence-boosting win in Suita?

La Blanquirroja too were without a win this year beforehand, losing 2-0 in Germany before a credible goalless draw with Morocco back in March.

This is a final friendly match for Juan Reynoso’s team before the serious business resumes in September, taking on Paraguay in Asunción before welcoming Brazil to Lima as CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying returns.

These two are both high-level teams, so expect an entertaining game at Suita City Football Stadium, with Japan looking to make home field advantage count.
