Liverpool v Real Betis
The Reds have been Stateside this week with the trip as much about fitness and game-time as it is new coach Arne Slot getting to know his players on and off the field.
He will be eager to get a positive performance in against Real Betis after their opening pre-season friendly ended in a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Preston North End.
Expect a front-foot approach from the Reds tonight led, as always, by Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has not had to contend with a summer tournament, unlike many of his team-mates, so he should be raring to go.
Betis under Manuel Pellegrini also adopt an expansive approach so there should be goals in this one.
Tip: Both teams to score and Salah to score for Liverpool at 17/10
Club Brugge v Mechelen
Club Brugge open the defence of their Belgian Pro League title at home to Mechelen tonight.
Having finished fourth in the regular-season standings, Club Brugge cruised through the Championship round to claim their fourth title in the last five years.
They scored 62 goals in their 30 regular season games and will be desperate to put the disappointment of last weekend’s Super Cup defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise behind them.
Mechelen appear to provide the perfect opposition. Besnik Hasi’s side came eighth in the league last season and missed out on European competition.
Tip: Club Brugge to win and over one goal at 4/7
Sonderjyske v Lyngby
Sonderjyske will be looking for a first win of the season in their opening home game following promotion when they host Lyngby.
Thomas Norgaard’s men finished second in the second tier last season and thrilled their supporters by scoring 58 goals in their 22 games – 10 more than any other team.
They were unfortunate to go down 1-0 to Silkeborg last weekend and are favourites to bounce back immediately.
Lyngby also lost last time out – 2-0 to FC Copenhagen – and have lost quality from their squad over the summer.
They won just two of 11 away games in the regular season in 2023-24.
Tip: Sonderjyske to win at 21/20
Accumulator
If you want to put those tips together to form an acca, it coms in at almost 8/1. A win would be a lovely way to start the weekend!
