Davide Frattesi’s 88th-minute winner ensured Inter Milan will take a 2-1 lead in their quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich back to San Siro after a dramatic encounter at the Allianz Arena.
Their injury crisis having significantly worsened when Jamal Musiala tore his hamstring against Augsburg last Friday, Bayern went into the game with an uphill task against an Inter side that had conceded just twice in this competition all season.
Vincent Kompany’s men were the more ambitious side in the first half, but they were caught out by a brilliant sucker punch from Inter as Lautaro Martinez gave the Serie A leaders a 38th-minute lead.
Substitute Thomas Muller looked to have secured a 1-1 draw in the week in which it was announced he would be leaving the club when he tapped in from close range.
However, a little over three minutes later, Frattesi had what proved to be the final say, rounding off an outstanding Inter break to deal Bayern their first home defeat in the Champions League since 2021 and take control of the tie.

And just like that, Inter are back ahead, and it's Frattesi who bundles home Augusto's drilled cross! 💥

Bayern Munich v Inter Milan
Despite their injury woes, Bayern had much the better of the first half, and only the efforts of Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer and the woodwork ensured they were not rewarded.
Michael Olise twice drew saves from Sommer and Raphael Guerreiro also forced the Swiss into a near-post stop from close range.
Olise was to the fore again as Harry Kane saw the best chance of the half go begging, the England striker collecting the France forward’s pass and bending the ball towards the far corner, only to see it strike the outside of the post.
Inter forays forward were brief for much of the opening period, though Carlos Augusto did fire a warning when he shot into the side-netting at the end of a counter down the left flank.
But Bayern were punished for their profligacy in superb fashion, Martinez finishing a move he started when he met Marcus Thuram’s clever lay-off from Augusto’s cross with a sublime finish with the outside of his boot.
Martinez stung the palms of Jonas Urbig early in the second half, but it looked as if a second Inter goal would not be required as Bayern continued to waste chances, Guerreiro lashing over and Kane skewing an effort wide.
Yet it was fittingly Muller who hauled Bayern back into the tie, the man who has been at the club since joining the youth setup in 2000 provided with a simple finish from Konrad Laimer’s ball in from the left.
The delirium among the home fans proved short-lived, though, as Frattesi silenced them once more and gave Bayern a mountain to climb in the second leg.
Nicolo Barella played a perfectly weighted ball down the left for Augusto, whose precise and powerful low cross was met with an instinctive Frattesi finish that provided a substantial boost to Inter’s hopes of a treble.
