Champions League play-offs: Dortmund thrash Sporting and Juve overcome PSV in first legs

Borussia Dortmund put one foot in the Champions League after a 3-0 win at Sporting in the first leg of their Champions League knockout play-off.

After an even first half, Dortmund stunned the hosts with three goals in the final half hour to earn the German side a huge advantage ahead of the return leg at the Signal Iduna Park.

Sergou Guirassy looped a header in to break the deadlock in the 62nd minute after Julian Brandt had floating the ball in for the Guinean to attack for his 10th goal in the Champions League this season.

Moments later, former Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross doubled their lead soon after by guiding the ball in with his thigh.

Dortmund’s evening when from good to even better when Karim Adeyemi found their third with less than 10 minutes remaining. finishing off a fine counter-attack.

Juventus 2-1 PSV Eindhoven

Samuel Mbangula scored late to give Juventus a slender advantage over PSV in their Champions League knockout phase play-off.

The Serie A giants, who finished 20th in the league phase, went ahead through Weston McKennie’s 34th minute stunner from the edge of the box.

Juve had a number of chances to go ahead further in a dominant first half, with Nicolas Gonzalez, Kenan Yildiz and Paris St-Germain loanee Randal Kolo Muani all going close.

Mbangula could also have scored moments after coming on early in the second half before the Dutch visitors levelled against the run of play.

With just their second shot on target in the 56th minute, Ivan Perisic nestled it into the bottom corner to level the game in the 56th minute.

But just when the came was heading for a draw, Mbangula popped up to score the winner from just a couple of yards out to hand Juve a potentially crucial advantage.
