It all appeared straightforward for Aston Villa when they started their Champions League campaign with successive wins over Sturm Graz, Bayern Munich and Bologna. But defeat at Club Brugge and a draw with Juventus means they are now needing points to push for a spot in the top eight of the revamped competition.
They have, at least, sorted out their Premier League form with wins over Brentford and Southampton and will fancy their chances in Germany tonight.
Marco Rose’s side have yet to pick up a point in Europe’s elite club competition but a win against Villa would keep their slim hopes of a top-24 finish alive.
