Following the drama during the return of the Champions League this week, it was now the Europa League’s turn to serve up some midweek action.

16 games were played across Thursday, with Besiktas’ 4-1 win over Athletic Club the warm-up on Wednesday evening.

The two English clubs were in action, Manchester United hosting Rangers and Tottenham travelling to Hoffenheim.

Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils scored a late winner to beat Rangers, meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou’s Lilywhites nearly threw away a comfortable lead in Germany but managed to hold on for three big points.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce took on Lyon, but could not find a way past their French opponents, drawing 0-0 at home.

Portuguese side Porto hosted Olympiacos but fell short, losing 1-0 thanks to a 79th-minute goal from Ayoub El Kaabi.

Roma headed to AZ Alkmaar and like so many others were on the end of a shock result. The Italians lost 1-0 courtesy of former Tottenham man Troy Parrott scoring the only goal of the game.

Lazio clashed with Real Sociedad in a feisty affair. The hosts ran out 3-1 winners and Sociedad had Aihen Munoz sent off in the first half, making it a tricky tie to turn around from that moment.

And Ajax were on the end of a shock result, losing 1-0 away from home to RFS.

That was not the end of the action, with dozens more goals flying in around the grounds on an excellent night of European football.

Read on to see the full-time scores from every match.
