Coventry are reportedly closing in on the appointment of Frank Lampard.
An agreement in principle between for the former England midfield to succeed Mark Robins as manager of the Sky Blues, according to Sky Sports.
It reported that a few fine details are still to be agreed, with Lampard – whose last job was Chelsea interim in 2023 – wanting to bring in a number of his own backroom staff.
Lampard has had two spells in charge of the Blues either side of managing Everton, with his first managerial role coming at Derby in 2018-19.
Rhys Carr has been in interim charge since Robins’ departure last month, overseeing successive 2-2 draws against Sunderland and Sheffield United before losing 2-0 to Burnley at the weekend.
His sacking came as a surprise after seven successful years in the West Midlands which saw him guide the Sky Blues from League Two to the Championship.
Coventry were a penalty shoot-out away from reaching the Premier League in 2023 before losing out to Luton in the play-off final.
Lampard is looking to reignite his managerial career after his spell as interim boss of Chelsea ended on a sour note.
He was also dismissed from his role as Everton boss in January 2023 after a poor run of result, having saved the Toffees from relegation the previous season
