Wales produced a fine performance to thrash Iceland and win promotion to League A of the Nations League as Craig Bellamy’s fine start in charge continued in Cardiff.

Turkey’s surprise 3-1 defeat to relegated Montenegro opened the door for Wales to win Group B4 and they charged through it despite falling behind.

Danny Ward did brilliantly to save Orri Óskarsson’s header but he couldn’t react in time to keep out the follow-up from Andri Gudjohnsen – son of former Chelsea and Barcelona man Eidur.

But Wales reacted well and levelled when Liam Cullen stretched to head in a fine cross from Brennan Johnson.

Swansea forward Cullen was then in the right place to steer home a rebound from Dan James’ shot and then played Johnson in to make it three after the break.

Cullen then wrapped up a memorable night as he teed up Harry Wilson for a ripping finish from range as the Cardiff crowd celebrated in style.

The in-form Fulham forward has now scored four goals in his last five internationals, while Cullen is the first Wales player to be involved in four goals in a game since Sam Vokes and Gareth Bale both did so against China in 2018.

Wales are unbeaten under Bellamy and look in good shape heading into World Cup qualification – the draw for which takes place next month.
