Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says Vinicius Jnr celebrated in a “normal” way after scoring at Real Sociedad on Saturday.

The Brazil international, who has been the target of racist insults throughout his time in Spain, was again singled out for boos and jeers during the game at the Reale Arena in San Sebastián.

When he scored the opening goal from the penalty spot, he put his finger to his mouth with a “shush” gesture to the home supporters.

His actions have come under fire with Madrid’s former director of football Predrag Mijatovic telling Marca: “He’s throwing stones on his own roof especially knowing everything that is happening around him.

“He should take this step and calm down a little bit. We were very happy with the goal but disappointed with the celebration. Why does he need to do this?

“I speak to many Real Madrid fans who love him but are upset with his behaviour.”

Ancelotti, however, said it was human nature to want to silence the boo-boys.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League clash with Stuttgart at the Santiago Bernabéu, he said: “It’s a reaction to a very ugly action. No-one could stand it, I coudn’t. The gesture of putting your hand to your mouth is normal, for everything that is happening.

“What has happened to him since I arrived is something you can’t stand. I understand the whistles… but this is not normal.”

Carvajal admits insults hurt Vinicius Jnr

Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal added: “We are all clear on the Vinícius issue and the opinion on any insult to a person of colour. The issue is clear. Tougher protocols are needed.

“We see and hear insults towards him. When they attack you, you bleed. And it’s normal for him to respond with certain gestures.”

Saturday’s win was much-needed for Madrid as they attempt to cling to the coat-tails of table-toppers Barcelona, who have a 100 per cent record after five games.

Ancelotti’s side are third with 11 points, four adrift.
