Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says he will work as if he will be at the club forever.

The Australian became the first Spurs manager to last a full season in half a decade but has struggled so far in 2024-25.

He knows his time in charge won’t last forever, but that does not stop him from working towards long-term success in North London.

“Yeah, they had a cake for me,” Postecoglou joked about his longevity compared to recent predecessors. #

“I know I will not be here forever, but I work like I will be. Every decision I make is made off that backdrop.

“If you get caught in timeline scenarios, you make results that short-term might feel good, but long term you will not get to where you want.”

On the injury front, Postecoglou revealed that forward Wilson Odobert is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup win over Coventry.

“Wilson doesn’t look good,” Postecoglou admitted.

“Still waiting for it to settle down. He’ll definitely be out for the next period. Bissouma trained today so he should be available for tomorrow. Timo [Werner]is ok.”

The update was even less promising for Brazilian striker Richarlison, who is still a significant way off from returning to action.

“[Richarlison] is a fair way off. You’re better off not asking about him until I give an update because he’s not with the first team,” the Tottenham boss confirmed.

Postecoglou calls for patience as Solanke awaits first goal

Postecoglou was also asked about the pressure on striker Dominic Solanke, who is still awaiting his first goal since joining the club for a hefty £65 million fee.

The manager urged fans and pundits alike to show more patience with the forward, especially given his recent injury troubles.

“I don’t know because people are just so quick to judge, mate,” Postecoglou said.

“It’s a small sample. The guy has played less than two games for us. If he has gone 15 games without a goal, then I can answer that question or 15 games where he hasn’t contributed.

“But I just think, take a breath. Do a bit of yoga. Think about the world for a second and make an assessment after that.”

Postecoglou stressed that it’s too early to make judgments about Solanke’s impact, given the limited time he’s spent on the pitch.

“We don’t have to rush to make judgment all the time because the alternative is he may have got off to a great start, he is fit, scored in all four games, is flying, and then he goes through a patch like all strikers where he doesn’t score. I just don’t look at those things.

“What I look at is he has come in, fitted really well, and quite logically has picked up an injury that has disrupted the way he wanted to start his career, but he’s still got plenty of time for that.

As Spurs prepare for their upcoming clash against Brentford, Postecoglou will secretly be hoping that Solanke can get off the mark.
