Manchester United have confirmed Ruben Amorim will replace Erik ten Hag as head coach on a deal until June 2027.
It was expected the news would be announced after Sporting CP’s game against Estrela this evening but a United statement at lunchtime stated the deal was done with the Portuguese moving to Old Trafford during the upcoming international break.
The statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements.
“He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.”
It’s done.

Sporting were eager to keep Amorim for the duration of his 30-day notice period but United have accepted a settlement that will see them add an extra €1million to the €10m release clause in his contract for him to make the switch earlier.
The 39-year-old has spent four years at Sporting and was linked with the vacancies at Liverpool and West Ham over the summer.

Van Nistelrooy future uncertain
Former United striker Van Nistelrooy took over on an interim basis earlier this week following Monday’s dismissal of Ten Hag and led the club to a 5-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester City on Wednesday night.
He has already outlined his desire to remain at Old Trafford in some capacity but his future is uncertain with Amorim expected to being several members of his backroom staff from Sporting.
Van Nistelrooy will stay in interim charge for the games against Chelsea on Sunday, PAOK in the Europa League, and Leicester again in the Premier League.
Amorim’s first game in the dugout will come 13 days after he takes up the job with a trip to Ipswich Town on November 24.
