Brentford manager Thomas Frank has said “things change” and suggested he could “wake up one morning and think I need a new challenge” in response to more questions about his future after being linked with clubs including Manchester United.

Reports have repeatedly named Frank as one of the coaches being considered by United if the Red Devils continue to underachieve under Erik ten Hag, while Thomas Tuchel – considered Ten Hag’s likeliest potential replacement by many – became England manager earlier this month.

“It’s impossible to say that I will stay here forever because life changes, things change,” said Frank, adding that he is “very, very happy” with the Bees.

“Maybe they will kick me out. I have no control over that. On the flip side, I may wake up one morning and think I need a new challenge or I move back to Denmark, because I know eventually I will move back to Denmark.

“If we’re talking about a bigger club, is a bigger club a bigger challenge? It’s a different challenge. But it’s irrelevant: I have a game against Ipswich in which we need to do our very best to try to win.”

Brentford vs Ipwich Town

United’s 2-1 comeback win over Brentford at Old Trafford last Saturday means that all 10 of the points taken by Frank’s side this season have come at home.

Ipswich are a point clear of third-bottom Crystal Palace and four shy of Everton immediately above them after losing 2-0 at home to the Toffees seven days ago.

Promoted last season, the Tractor Boys collected all of their points so far during a run of four consecutive draws in September.

Brentford injuries

Midfielder Mathias Jensen could return for the first time since August 31 following a calf injury. “Jensen will be involved with the squad,” said Frank.

“He has trained for the full week and looks good, so we’re very happy with that. He will be involved in the squad, which is very positive. He has trained all week and looks good.”

Left-back Rico Henry (knee) and forwards Igor Thiago (knee) and Gustavo Nunes (back) are unavailable but progressing well, while full-back Aaron Hickey (hamstring) and midfielder Josh Dasilva (knee) are long-term absentees.

“Both of them are running around on the pitch, but not with the team,” Frank said of Nunes and £30 million record signing Thiago. “That’s positive.”
