Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was frustrated with his side’s dropped points against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Blues took the lead through a well-worked goal from Nicolas Jackson, before Eberechi Eze netted a second-half equaliser to earn his side their first point of the season.

It was a frustrating afternoon in West London for Maresca, who guided his side to a 6-2 win against Wolves last time out.

But despite being unable to win the match, he says his side are heading in the right direction.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “We completely deserved to win the game. We had many, many chances.

“The most important thing was the performance and the performance was there. We conceded just two shots today.

“We didn’t take the three points but playing the way we did today, I think we will win games.”

There was a conversational moment in the match which could have seen Palace midfielder Will Hughes should have been sent off for a second yellow card.

But he remained on the pitch, much to the frustration of the Chelsea head coach.

He added: “This kind of thing for sure changes the game. It was clear second yellow card but the referee thinks in different ways.

“I feel a bit shame for the result but not the performance. The direction is the correct one.

“With the players arriving now we can even better.”
