Chris Wood hailed his Nottingham Forest team-mates after their 7-0 thrashing of Brighton.

The Tricky Trees bounced back from a difficult defeat to Bournemouth with a resounding win that keeps them firmly placed in the Premier League’s top four.

Chris Wood netted another hat-trick, taking his season tally to 17 for the season.

Speaking after the game, the New Zealand forward remained humble and credited his team-mates.

He said: “What a difference a week can make. Down in the dumps after last week. It wasn’t us, it wasn’t like us, but today that was definitely us.

“It is all credit to the team. This lad [Elanga] puts it on a plate for me so it makes my job easier every time. Then Morgs [Gibbs-White] handed me the penalty for the hat-trick. It’s fantastic, the boys have done superbly showing character to come back from last week. That is what we’re about.

“We know the relationship that we have. We have that bond, the connection and he does superbly for me and it shows in the statistics. A hat-trick of assists never goes unnoticed. The boy is on flames.”

Gibbs-White echoed his striker’s words, admitting the result was exactly what Forest needed.

He said: “That is exactly what we wanted after last week, and exactly what the fans wanted. Last week was no way near our standards and we have been working on things to put it right all week in training and the lads were incredible today.

“We completely nullified everything they did and caught them a couple of times on the counter. We were clinical in the final third.

“Last week was really tough to take. We had a clear game plan of what we wanted to do. Fair play to Bournemouth, they nullified us. So it was just about using the character and belief in the squad, choosing how we wanted to respond and which way we wanted to move ion the table.

“Do we want to crumble or do we want to bounce back? That response today showed exactly where we want to be heading.”
