Everton navigated a great start at Goodison Park in their crunch Merseyside derby with Liverpool before being undone by an almost immediate equaliser.

The Toffees were given a heroes welcome ahead of the game, with flares and plenty of signing surrounding the team coach as the players arrived.

And the players rewarded the fans for their support with an early opener in the game.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead thanks to the in-form Beto, who beat the Liverpool offside trap from a free-kick and slotted past Alisson.

Liverpool immediately surrounded referee Michael Oliver to complain that they were not given sufficient time to set up for the free-kick, but the veteran official dismissed the complaints.

It was a rookie error from the Premier League leaders, who were undone by some quick thinking from the hosts.

But just five minutes later, the visitors found an equaliser.

Mohamed Salah found space in the wide area, before picking out Alexis Mac Allister with a perfect floated cross.

The World Cup winner had no trouble converting with his head, silencing the crowd and levelling the game.
