Arsenal have confirmed that striker Gabriel Jesus has suffered an anterior cruciate injury.

The Brazilian is almost certain to miss the rest of the season after suffering the injury in the FA Cup against Manchester United on Sunday, with the 27-year-old set to have surgery in the coming days.

A statement said: “Further to being substituted during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Jesus, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City for £45million in 2022, had scored six goals in his last seven games.

Ahead of Arsenal’s North London derby against Tottenham on Wednesday, manager Mikel Arteta admitted he was “very worried” about Jesus’ injury.

“[It’s] not looking good at all, but we need to review with the specialist and will have more information this afternoon,” Arteta said.

“I don’t want to confirm anything until we have the final report this afternoon. We were very worried straight after the game and we are very worried today.

“We are actively looking into the market to improve the squad. We always have been. It would be naïve not too. We are looking and we are trying, so let’s see what we can do.”

Jesus lengthens a growing Arsenal injury list which also includes fellow forward Bukayo Saka, as well as Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ethan Nwaneri and Riccardo Calafiori.
