Ipswich defender Axel Tuanzebe is set to be sidelined for at least a month after a freak washing up injury.
The 26-year-old required surgery after sustaining a deep cut to his thumb while he was washing the dishes.
A report in the Daily Mail even suggests the centre-back was close to losing his thumb as a result of the accident.
Tuanzebe had started all six of the Tractor Boys’ Premier League games this season before missing Saturday’s trip to West Ham.
Manager Kieran McKenna said the freak injury Tuanzebe sustained was “unfortunate”.
“He’s done a hand injury, a very unfortunate accident”, McKenna said. “He’s had surgery and will be out for a while.
“It’s not going to be a couple of weeks, probably longer. There are still discussions with the specialists.
“He’s naturally a miss with the way he’s started the season. He’s going to be out for a little while.”

He sustained a gruesome cut from broken glass.

The former Manchester United and Aston Villa centre-back has since had successful surgery but will be absent for at least a month.
Ben Johnson replaced Tuanzebe for the 4-1 defeat at the London Stadium which leaves the newly-promoted side still searching for their first win of the campaign.
