Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he would throw a party on the island of Mallorca if Manchester City were to be stripped of their Premier League titles.

The Premier League champions were referred to an independent commission in February 2023 over 115 alleged breaches of financial rules in the last decade. The club has consistently denied any wrongdoing and an outcome of the case is expected in the coming months.

During his run at Anfield, Klopp’s Reds faced stiff competition from Guardiola’s dominant City side, finishing second in the league twice during the German’s tenure.

And there is the possibility that if the current holders are stripped of their titles, they would be handed to the team that finished second in every affected campaign.

Speaking as Red Bull’s new Head of Football, Klopp said: “We had this discussion when I left.

“I haven’t spent a lot of time in Mallorca because I am always flying around the place.

“But if it would happen, I told all the people who wanted to [come]: ‘Just book a flight to Mallorca. I will buy the beer!’ We’d have our own parade in my garden.”

Klopp worked with some elite players at Liverpool, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

All three are out of contract in the summer and the ex-boss addressed the current situation.

“I’m so happy I’m not in charge with that situation and having to answer those questions every week,” Klopp said.

“I’d love all three of them to extend their contracts. They don’t tell me what is going on. When Virgil is 41 to 44, I’m sure he’d love to play for New York … I’d welcome him with open arms.”
