Aston Villa had got their season back on track with wins over Brentford, Southampton and RB Leipzig and were aiming to maintain that momentum at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The Villans didn’t have the best record after returning to domestic action following Champions League games, though, having won just once in five previous attempts.
Forest have continued to surprise, with a 3-2 win at Manchester United a week earlier another example of their improvement under Nuno Espirito Santo.
