Liverpool have unveiled their third kit for the 2024-25 season.

The Reds revealed their alternative shirt on Tuesday, revealing a smart white design with red and yellow on the collar and trim.

But fans were quick to notice a significant change to the norm on the new shirt, with the badge from kit manufacturer Nike appeared to be turned vertically.

So what is the reason for the change?

Why Liverpool’s kit features a vertical Nike swoosh

Liverpool’s third shirt is part of Nike’s ‘Together We Rise’ collection, which features a vertical double Nike swoosh to signify the rise of women’s football.

The design also features on the mens and womens teams of Tottenham and Chelsea, who also have Nike as their kit supplier.

Nike’s iconic ‘swoosh’ logo signifies the wings of Greek goddess Nike, who symbolises victory.

Therefore doubling the swoosh, with the second places inside the original, represents the ever-increasing growth of the women’s game.

A Nike statement after the release said: “‘Together We Rise’ incorporates each club’s distinct identity, story and community while celebrating the ascendency of the women’s game.

“Designed in close partnership with clubs throughout Europe and Latin America, the all-gender collection reflects Nike’s belief that women and girls are on the leading edge of change, redefining the parameters of sport and how it serves the next generation.”

Alongside the double swoosh, Liverpool’s third kit is said to pay homage to the female punk artists in the city who pioneered a new sound.

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was one of the Reds stars to model the new kit and

He said: “I really like it; I like the colour and the detail on the shirt, especially with the Swoosh going up, which is a bit different. It’s signifying the rise of the women’s game and we’re a big part of it to try to help that.”

Liverpool to debut third shirt against Manchester United

Liverpool will wear their stylish new shirt for the first time as Arne Slot’s men travel to bitters rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

It will be the Dutchman’s first visit to Old Trafford as Reds boss as they look to make it three wins from three this season against their old foes.

Liverpool’s home and away kits

All three of Liverpool’s kits for the 2024-25 season have now been revealed following the earlier releases of their home and away strips.

Their home shirt, worn in both their wins so far over Ipswich and Brentford, features the iconic red alongside some vertical yellow panelling down the front.

It is also distinguished by a slick white and red collar around the neck.

The Liverpool away jersey features a dark anthracite base (almost black) with light turquoise and lighter anthracite applications.

Both shirts are available to purchase online at the Liverpool club store and at Nike.com.
