Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday through illness.

Rashford has not featured for United in the last five games, although he was an unused substitute for Monday night’s home defeat against Newcastle.

“At the moment he is ill,” boss Ruben Amorim said this lunchtime. “He is not training. He is going to be out this week.”

The England international recently spoke of his desire to leave Old Trafford for a new challenge and United are reported to be willing to sell if they can find a buyer.

That, however, could be an issue with Rashford eager to stay in a major European league while his wages mean he is out of reach for the majority of clubs.

There have been reports the 27-year-old has rejected three lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia while he is also not thought to be interested in a move to Turkey.

The Sun claimed this morning that United were exploring a deal that would see Rashford join Napoli in exchange for Victor Osimhen but a deal of that magnitude appears unlikely in this window, especially as the Nigeria striker is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Amad and Maguire set to stay

There was better news for United fans regarding winger Amad Diallo.

The 22-year-old has finally established himself as a first-team regular this season following a hugely productive loan spell at Sunderland.

His current deal is due to expire in the summer but Amorim confirmed an extension was “near” while he also said the club would trigger an option to prolong Harry Maguire’s stay at United for a further 12 months.

“We are happy to continue with Harry,” said Amorim.

“We will trigger our option. He needs to improve as a leader because we are starving for leaders on the pitch.”
