Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly withdrawn from the Argentina squad due to injury.

The 20-year-old confirmed on Instagram that he is suffering from a knee problem and has been advised by United’s medical team not to travel.

He said: “I had knee problems in the last two matches, and I won’t be able to be with the national team, but I hope to recover so I can be on the next date.”

Garnacho played the full game of United’s drab 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on Sunday in a performance which failed to ease the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag’s future.

Argentina play two World Cup qualifiers during the upcoming international break, the first away to Venezuela on Thursday before they host Bolivia the following Wednesday.

The Madrid-born youngster has seven Argentina caps to his name after making his senior debut in June 2023.

He has scored four goals and provided three assists for the Red Devils this term, with Ten Hag highlighting the bright start the youngster has made to the season after their draw with Villa.

Addressing their struggles scoring goals, the Dutch boss said: “That will come. Sometimes it’s the form.

“Rasmus Hojlund is just in the season, he is not up to 100 [per cent] fitness, match fitness. And he is our goalscorer, I would say our best goalscorer.

“But also others, we know they can score goals, like Rashford. But he scored in Porto, he had a good assist in Porto, today he created two very good chances.

“I think Garnacho is all season already a threat, but also scoring and assisting. Bruno has abilities to score goals.

“So we will get there and we trust the players. One day it will click.”
