Liverpool took the chance to extend their Premier League lead to 11 points with a 2-0 victory away at Manchester City.
Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai scored in the first half during a mature performance by Arne Slot’s Reds as they capitalised on Arsenal’s defeat at West Ham and continued their march towards the title.
A miserable week for City which saw them crash out of the Champions League on Wednesday continued as the champions now sit an astonishing 20 points behind the Merseyside club.
Manchester City v Liverpool
City started the game with plenty of intent but their positive start was undone once again by some slack defending with Salah taking advantage after finishing off a slick corner routine on 14 minutes.
A corner was played in towards Dominik Szoboszlai along the ground with the Hungarian taking one touch into the path of Salah inside the box, with the red-hot Egyptian firing home for his eighth consecutive Premier League goal.
Mo Salah is happy with that 😁

Salah’s Egypt team-mate Omar Marmoush thought he had levelled the game for City after a fine finish across Alisson but the January signing was standing in an offside position when he picked up the ball.
And 37 minutes in, that 11-point lead looked fully in sight when Salah returned the favour to Szoboszlai with a pass on the edge of the box before the midfielder clinically wrong-footed Ederson with a low drive into the back of the net.

Curtis Jones looked to have wrapped the game up in the second half after firing into an open net but this time, Szoboszlai failed to spring the offside trap.
It continued to be the perfect away performance by Liverpool, who stood firm for much of the second half as City struggled to carve out clear-cut chances, while Salah and Co remained a threat on the break.
