Manchester City's Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland has netted his 100th Manchester City goal to give his side the lead against Arsenal in the Premier League.

The City striker was at his formidable best against their title rivals, running through on goal before calmly slotting past David Raya.

It was a great break from City, with winger Savinho playing a perfectly weighted pass to the Norwegian.

But the lead was short-lived for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Having just lost midfielder Rodri with a knee injury, Arsenal took a quick free-kick over the top to Gabriel Martinelli.

The Brazilian winger laid it off to Riccardo Calafiori on the edge of the box, who rifled home a first-time finish on his first start for the Gunners.

City were left furious as the free-kick was taken way in front of where the foul was committed.

But VAR did nothing to intervene, leaving the game finely poised with so much time left to play.

What was said?

Leon Osman was watching the game for BBC Radio 5 Live and was left in awe at both goals.

On Haaland’s strike, he said: “Outstanding finish from Erling Haaland. Brilliant run, but it is all about Savinho and the two wide men for City.

“They have spread themselves so wide and it makes Arsenal’s back four spread out a lot further than what they want to be.

“We saw the game here last year and Haaland in the 90 minutes didn’t have that kind of space.

“Too good to be true for Haaland.”

On Calafiori’s strike, he added: “Incredible.

“Man City are moaning at Arsenal taking a quick free-kick, City were not ready for it.

“Man City players are caught out by it. The ball over the top to Martinelli and Man City were scrambling.”
