Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes admits he is going through “one of the hardest” moments in his career.
Fernandes was sent off for the second time in five days last night as United drew 3-3 at Porto in the Champions League. His first red card, against Tottenham on Sunday, was later rescinded but United’s 10 men were brushed aside 3-0 by Ange Postecoglou’s side.
United have gone four games without a win in all competitions, ramping up the pressure on coach Erik ten Hag ahead of Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa.

Fernandes said on Instagram: “Tough moment as a team and personally for me, one of the hardest. Almost five years at the club with ups and downs, good and bad moments.
“Personally, I have always had challenges and adversities throughout my career and something that’s never happened was that I go silent or hide myself from responsibilities in difficult moments. I know it sounds cliche and most of you United fans will be tired of it, but no one is more disappointed than myself with my own moment.
“Even through this moment, I appreciate all of you that had positive messages of belief in me and the team.”
Ten Hag defends his skipper
Fernandes’ red card against Spurs was for a challenge on James Maddison. Last night, he was dismissed for two yellows, both for high feet.
Ten Hag was quick to defend his captain today, insisting the Portugal international was not indisciplined.
He said: “The red card was overturned for Bruno so it was acknowledged it was a mistake on Sunday [against Tottenham]. This was very unlucky [in Porto] and he gave everything to make a goal.
“He was in the right moment, in the right spot but he came on his blind side. So I wouldn’t address this as indiscipline.”
