Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would jump at the chance of managing Manchester United for a second time.

The Norwegian’s first spell in the Old Trafford dug-out ended in November 2021 after almost three years in charge. After initially taking over on an interim basis following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho, Solskaer led the club to a second-placed finish in 2020-21 before being sacked six months later.

He has been working as a technical observer for UEFA since then but, when asked if he would like to return to United one day, he said: “If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week.

“It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course.”

United handed incumbent Erik ten Hag a new contract in the summer after an internal review conducted by Ineos decided he was the right man for the job, despite suggestions the club held talks with Thomas Tuchel.

However, results have not picked up and the Dutchman, who is now in his third season at the club, is again under pressure. United are 11th in the Premier League after two wins from their first five games. They were also held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente in their Europa League opener last night.

Norway also on Solskjaer’s wishlist

Solskajer, who was speaking at the Oslo Business Forum, was also asked about the possibility of managing the Norway national team.

Stale Solbakken is expected to step down following the 2026 World Cup and Solskajer has been linked with taking over.

He said: “Of course if the question arises, when Stale decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions.

“I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from.”
