Kaoru Mitoma scored a stunning goal to hand Brighton the lead against Chelsea this evening.
The Japan international ran on to a long ball forward from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen in the 26th minute, controlled it expertly on his right foot before cutting inside Trevoh Chalobah and bending his shot around Filip Jorgensen and into the bottom right-hand corner.

It was a moment of supreme skill from the left winger – described as “outrageous” by Sky commentator Jamie Carragher – and came against the run of play with Chelsea enjoying the better of the few opportunities that arose inside the opening half hour.
Cole Palmer wasted the visitors’ two best chances, firing the first over the bar and slicing the second horribly wide.
And he was made to pay when Yankuba Minteh doubled Brighton’s advantage seven minutes before half-time.
