Mohamed Salah’s goal and assist in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City could have been part of his last appearance in the fixture at Anfield, the forward has suggested.
Top scorer Salah, who now has 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 appearances this season, is out of contract at the end of the campaign and said last week that he was “disappointed” not to have been offered a new deal, adding that he is “probably more out than in” in terms of staying at Anfield.
“Honestly, that was in my head,” Salah told Sky Sports when he was asked about his future following a home victory that moved Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the table.
“Until now, it’s the last City [home] game I play for Liverpool, so I’m just going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I’m just enjoying it here. Hopefully we win the league and will see what will happen.”

Liverpool vs Man City: Salah stars
Salah set up Cody Gakpo’s close-range opener after 12 minutes and converted a penalty 12 minutes from time to help condemn reigning champions City to a fourth consecutive league defeat.
“I’m a good player,” the Egypt captain replied when he was asked about his inspired pass across goal for the Netherlands international.
“I told Cody before the game, ‘everytime I have the ball, if there is a chance to play the ball for you, I will, for sure.’
“It’s very special. I don’t take it for granted. I’m enjoying every minute here. It feels like home. It’s always a special feeling, scoring at Anfield and winning games.”

Mohamed Salah salary
Three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Salah signed a new deal in July 2022 making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history.
The 32-year-old’s lawyer and adviser, Ramy Abbas Issa, told a Harvard Business School study in 2023 that Salah earns at least £1 million a week in total income, boosted by factors such as his lucrative endorsements.
“Renewing at Liverpool would be one of the biggest milestones of my career,” Salah said in the study, via The Guardian.
“But we have to do this the right way. I’ve learned throughout my career that if you want to be successful, it is important to invest in yourself not just physically but also mentally.”
“Ultimately he’s a world class player.”

Van Dijk: City win ‘good feeling’
Defender Virgil van Dijk, who is also out of contract at the end of the season, hit the woodwork with a header before Liverpool went ahead.
“City have a fantastic team,” said the skipper. “They are four-time champions in a row and they have the quality to punish any team. We were very solid defensively. Offensively, we created good chances and could have scored more.
“It’s been a great day. We focus on the next one; that’s the only thing we can do. There’s no point, at this stage of the season, to get ahead of ourselves.
“Everyone wants to be in a position where they’re, in this case, 11 points in front of our opponents today. There are so many twists and turns.
“We have some injuries, unfortunately, and we have to deal with that as well. When you win like this, it’s always a good feeling.”
