Mohamed Salah maintained the pressure on Liverpool this afternoon by posting a tweet featuring the three big-name players that are out of contract at the end of the season.

Salah’s tweet didn’t contain any words but was simply a picture of himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk with all three free to leave Anfield in June.

Salah’s choice of picture is unlikely to be a coincidence and continues his public pursuit of a new deal to remain on Merseyside.

No progress, said Salah

The usually media-shy Egyptian has, on more than one occasion, spoken of the fact that a deal has not yet been agreed and, again last week, said he was now expecting to depart in five months’ time.

“There is no progress there,” he told Sky Sports of the prospect of extending his contract. “We are far away from any progress. We just need to wait and see.

“The thing in my head is that if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say ‘I was concerned or stressed about the contract’?

“Or do you just want to say ‘I had an unbelievable season’? That’s what is in my head. If I ever feel distraction, I just remind myself I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season.”

One more trophy

Salah said he hoped to win another trophy during his time with Liverpool, who drew 2-2 with Manchester United yesterday with the 32-year-old scoring one of the goals from the penalty spot.

“My motivation this year was to win a trophy and be a big part of winning that trophy – especially the Premier League,” Salah added, discussing the squad assembled by Arne Slot’s predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, whose trophies including the 2018/19 Champions League and 2019/20 Premier League.

“There is still half of [that] team left like me, Trent, Virgil, Alisson, Robbo [Andy Robertson]. It’s necessary for us to win another trophy before we all go.”
