Christopher Nkunku has grabbed his first Premier League goal since early December to give Chelsea the lead against Southampton.

The opening 30 minutes at Stamford Bridge had been a bore fest, with Cole Palmer going closest for the hosts.

But Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale pulled off a big save to keep the scores level, only to be undone a few moments later.

The Blues won themselves a corner which was taken by Enzo Fernandez, meeting the head of Tosin Adarabioyo, who flicked the ball to the back post.

Nkunku was on hand to head home and give Enzo Maresca’s side the lead.

There was an outpour of emotion from the Frenchman, who has endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge.

And his Chelsea team-mates rushed over to celebrate with the forward as they moved into the driving seat against the Premier League’s bottom-placed side.
