Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has called on forward Matheus Cunha to learn his lesson following a two-match ban from the FA.

The 25-year-old received an £80,000 penalty and a ban after clashing with an Ipswich security staff member at the end of Wolves’ defeat to the Tractor Boys last month.

As a result, Cunha will be unavailable for Wolves’ upcoming Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Monday and their FA Cup third-round clash at Bristol City on January 11.

Speaking on the situation, Pereira said: “He knows it was not a good reaction but I look for a player not only as a player, but as a human being and even me, I make mistakes.

“He knows he made a mistake, he knows not to do it again and to keep the emotional balance and move forward.”

The suspension leaves Wolves without their top scorer, who has netted 10 goals this season. Pereira stressed the importance of adapting as his team faces Nottingham Forest.

“We need to be ready to play with or without Cunha,” he said. “We have players with different skills and qualities but we will be ready.”

Wolves currently sit 17th in the Premier League table and risk dropping into the relegation zone before Monday’s kick-off if results from other matches, including Ipswich’s clash with Fulham, go against them.

A win for Ipswich would push Wolves back into the bottom three heading into their game at Molineux.

In the background, sporting director Matt Hobbs is continuing to explore potential reinforcements in the transfer market.

Wolves are reportedly interested in Lens defender Kevin Danso, though Pereira remained tight-lipped about specific targets.

“We are working in the market like the other teams,” Pereira said. “We are trying to understand what my players can give to me for the way I want to play. It means this is a time to look for targets but I speak about my players – I cannot speak about other players.”
